About a Bird

My name is Jessica. Welcome.

My day to day life is not the most exciting, as I feel any mom will understand - I don't jet-set to amazing places on the regular, I don't attend glamorous events, hell - I don't even put on a bra most days of the week. But for all of the boring hum of every day life, there are 40 years of experiences—mistakes, hard lessons learned, funny stories, heartbreak, intense therapy, things I wish someone had told me sooner, triumphs, and a shit-ton of hindsight.

I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel here, but I am here in the hopes that I can be of service and help to you. Whether it be learning from my mistakes and saving yourself the trouble, finding some efficient tips, learning something new or at the very least - watching this cluster-fluff of a life unfold as a form of entertainment, I hope you can take something away from this space and our time together.

With that said, let's get some of the basics out of the way.

I'm 40 years old. Mama to a couple of pretty amazing, albeit exhausting, teenage kids - both in college now. Married to the most brilliant, albeit frustrating, man I know, who thankfully is also my best friend. Treat dispenser and snuggle buddy to a 5lb. Yorkie named Yuca (Yoo-kah), and two rescue kittens - Opal & Jasper.

I've been a photographer for over 20 years and a designer for over 15. I currently work as an Art Director in Non-Profit and Fundraising. I've worked in a variety of industries including movie and television, marketing, radio/podcasting, news, technology, manufacturing, and print/publishing and all without a traditional education or a college degree. This gives me that lovely little chip on my shoulder we call Imposter Syndrome, that I hope not to spend a lifetime trying to unpack. I've also written pretty much my entire life - journaling, moody teenage poetry - the usual, but always for myself. I've included a fun little graphic below of a few more random things about me - I don't want to give it all away right now though, I need to keep you coming back for more (wink).
