Odd Bird Out

Scrapping one page at a time

Using Up Stash and Playing with Carts

I’ve always readily admitted that I have a problem when it comes to patterned paper.  I LOVE pretty paper (it is what got me scrapping in the first place, even if the paper from 10 years ago isn’t exactly what we would consider pretty today).  I also tend to hoard paper!  I have tons and tons of stuff that I just HAD to have, but has never been touched.   Well, today’s blog entry is going to show case some of the projects that I have recently completed that uses some of these  papers… and of course some  major cartridge exploration.

First up is this lovely layout using some very Old Kaiser product (Title reades: You are a Burst of Color to my Heart):

Kaiser Paper, Making Memories stickers, Storybook Cart, Stickles and Primas

I played around with making wordy titles with these two layouts.  I was a bit stumped when completing the “Life Little Moments” layout.  I really wanted to do something with owls from the paper, in order to pop them.  I tried trimming them out and pop dotting them… which totally didn’t work.  After several attempts at cutting various owls from paper and being unsatisfied, I remembered the simple shape of the owl from WILD CARD.  I pulled out some sticky-backed felt and loaded it into my Cricut and popped in the deep-cut blade. I had to cut through the felt six times to get it to work, and then trim the the actual pieces out with an exacto knife.  (I use the finger one.) I then cut some simple ovals using Plantin and pieced together my own custom owls.  I Used Stickles to complete the details.  I think I did I darn good job recreating the AC owl and making my own Custom Felties!  You should try this too!

American Crafts Paper, Wild Card Cart, Graphically Speaking Cart, Flocking and Stickles

Paisley Cart, Lyrical Letters, Three Bugs in A Rug Paper (I think)

In the beginning….

There once was a girl who liked to scrapbook and also really liked owls. Now, we are not just talking about a passive interest in scrapbooking; no, this girl was full-on obsessed (the same could be said for her interest in all things owl-ie). In fact, she probably spends more time and money on these two obsessions than she spends on anything else. Her boyfriend, friends, and family have been telling her for years that she should do something more with her obvious talent and the experience she has procured just from being so obsessed. So, here I am introducing you all to me and my new blog: Odd Bird Out.

It is on this blog that I hope to share my enthusiasm and obsession for scrapbooking with others who share my passion. I will post projects I am working on, share tips and tricks, and probably obsess over all things Owl! I can’t help it, I am just a bit of an Odd Bird.

To get me started in sharing here is one of my favorite Owl’s Cut from Cricut’s Paisley Cart.  (Yes I am a Cricut obsessee too!!!)

An ATC I made for a swap and then proceeded to lose. Thank goodness I at least have this picture.

Isn't he the cutest thing.
